People and Language

95 % of the habitants in the country are Armenians. The other 5 % build in large part Russians and Yezidi, furthermore Greeks, Assyrians and Azeri.

The Armenian language is a part of the Indo-Germanic (Indo-European) family; the Armenian alphabet was created in the beginning of the 5th century by Mesrop Maschtoz. Since then the alphabet has become the fixed basis of the national language and culture.

The dominating religion in the country is the Armenian Apostolic Church, which about 94 % of the population belong to. There is a Catholic minority of the Armenian-Catholic rite, also called Armenian-Catholic church.
